It appears on the Final Merit List that the MHT-CET authorities publish on their official website, after you have completed your registration for the CAP rounds. It is your state-level general merit number — not your percentile, and not your category rank. Until that list is published the number does not exist yet, so set up your account and profile in the meantime, leave the merit number blank, and enter it on the prediction form once the Final Merit List is out.
No. MapMyMerit predicts for Maharashtra state quota seats in engineering, allotted on the basis of your MHT-CET 2026 PCM score. All India Quota seats at Maharashtra colleges are allotted separately, on JEE Main 2026 scores, and we do not predict for those.
That is the target split, not a guarantee. Reach and ambitious slots are only filled by colleges that genuinely qualify for them — a college you narrowly miss that is also at least as good as one you can already safely get. When few or none qualify for your merit number, safe picks take those slots instead, so you may see well over 21 safe colleges and little or no reach and ambitious. The total still adds up to thirty wherever the data allows.
When the cities you picked do not yield enough safe colleges to fill the list, it is topped up with colleges elsewhere in Maharashtra so you still get a full set of options. Every college in your chosen cities is ranked above every college outside them, so the extras always sit at the bottom of the safe list. Reach and ambitious picks are never topped up this way — those stay strictly within the cities you chose.
Safe means your merit number is better than that college’s most recent cutoff for a seat you are eligible for. Reach means you missed that cutoff by up to 500 places. Ambitious means you missed it by 501 to 1500. All three are estimates drawn from past counselling data — they indicate likelihood, not a guaranteed seat.
Most often it is the CAP round you selected. Choosing a single round narrows the data to only that round, so any college with no seat recorded in it drops out of the list entirely, and later rounds have fewer seats still open. A very narrow branch choice does the same, because only the branch groups you picked are ever considered. Select "All rounds" for the widest possible list.
Generating one list uses one iteration. Viewing a past run again, or downloading its Excel report a second time, costs nothing and is unlimited. Your remaining iterations are always shown in the bar at the top of the page.
CAP does not allot seats from a single pool. Home-university seats are reserved for students from that university’s region, other-university and state-level seats open more widely, and category and parallel quota seats sit alongside them. We only show you seats you are genuinely eligible for, and we label the seat type you would actually receive rather than the easiest one on paper.
